About the event

Come & be guided on the second section of a unique and special new Pilgrimage route which runs through the beautiful Golden Valley area of Herefordshire. This new pilgrims's path has so much history and natural beauty to discover, we will be spoilt as we wander together. ABBEYDORE DEANERY | GOLDEN VALLEY PILGRIM WAY

We are going to be breaking the route down into managable sections as day walks over the next 6 months giving people chance to experience the route without having to walk it all in one go!

Just like the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, this Golden Valley path has a beautiful 'credential' (passport), which can be purchased for £5 and can be stamped at various churches along the way giving you satisfaction, and a memory of your walk, (the ticket price for these walks will also incude a donation to the churches that we get the stamps at of £2 per church).

This section starts at Madley village & follows the route visiting Tyberton where we see a georgian church, Moccas hamlet where there is a knight in the middle of the church and a lovely old organ, then on to Bredwardine where we see the site of an ancient settlement on the river bank, folllowed by a beautiful small church with a surprising stone built into the wall. Then it's uphill over fields to get hopefully some views of the Wye valley, the Golden valley, and hopefully the black mountians beyond.

At the top we will be able to marvel at Arthur's stone, (a neolithic ancient burial site), thats 5000 years old!! We then finish the walk down in the valley at the lovely village of Dorstone where St Faiths church lies.

At 12 miles this section is lenghty & there is one steep hill near the end. We will however take things at a steady pace with time to take in the history and the views.

The walk will be led by 'setting our intention' at the start, and there may be sections of reflective quiet walking to contemplate and relax in our natural surroundings.

You are welcome to bring a walking staff as an indication of your pilgrim status, & you will recieve a scallop shell to attach to your ruck sack, also as a sign you are walking the pilgrim way.

We will meet in Madley village where we can park at the recreational park/tennis club, & lift shares will be organised nearer the time to get us back to the start from Dorstone where we finish.
