About the event
Come & be guided on the fourth section of a unique and special new Pilgrimage route which runs through the beautiful Golden Valley area of Herefordshire. This new pilgrims's path has so much history and natural beauty to discover, we will be spoilt as we wander together. ABBEYDORE DEANERY | GOLDEN VALLEY PILGRIM WAY
We are going to be breaking the route down into managable sections as day walks over the next 6 months giving people chance to experience the route without having to walk it all in one go!
Just like the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, this Golden Valley path has a beautiful 'credential' (passport), which can be purchased for £5 and can be stamped at various churches along the way giving you satisfaction, and a memory of your walk, (the ticket price for these walks will also incude a donation to the churches that we get the stamps at of £2 per church).
This 12 mile section starts at Michaelchurch hamlet, then winds its way through glourious countryside on old lanes, footpaths, and bridleways to the tiny ancient hamlet of Craswell under Black hill, also known as the 'Cat's back'. Here we get to peak inside a stunning isolated church, before heading along directly under the mountain ridge, with superb views to Llanveno hamlet. Here we visit an extremely remote church containing some very ancient stones and views to wow! Then its down to Longtown village where there there are remains of a castle to see. We then finish at Cloddock Church next to the pub, if anyone fancies a pint!
(Nearer the time, arrangements will be organised to park some cars at the end point to enable transport back to the start to collect our vechicles)
The walk will be led by 'setting our intention' at the start, and there may be sections of reflective quiet walking to contemplate and relax in our natural surroundings.
You are welcome to bring a walking staff as an indication of your pilgrim status, & you will recieve a scallop shell to attach to your ruck sack, also as a sign you are walking the pilgrim way.
