About the event

Join us for a guided autumn walk in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, starting at 330 metres beneath the iconic peak of Pen y Fan. Our route begins by descending into the beautiful Glyn Tarell valley, crossing the Afon Tarell — its name meaning “spring source” in Welsh — in land now cared for by the National Trust.

We’ll follow the old 18th-century Turnpike road, once a steep stagecoach route before it was re-routed in 1831, before turning west to gradually climb through forest and fields onto open moorland. From here, we ascend Twyn Dylluan-ddu (493m), rewarded with far-reaching views across Mynydd Illtud Common and the surrounding high peaks, including Pen y Fan itself.

Our return route skirts the edge of the Craig Cerrig Gleisiad National Nature Reserve, a dramatic haven for wildlife and geology, before looping back to our starting point.
