About the event

Come & be guided on a roughly 4.5 mile countryside walk in this special part of the Welsh Brecon Beacons National Park.

We get to start and finish at Abercamlais, a privately owned grade 1 listed Mansion House, set in parkland between Sennybridge & Brecon. It originally dates from the middle ages & is set in extensive grounds along side the stunning river Usk.

Nearby there is a dovecote serving as a bridge over the Camlais stream, & on the other side of the river there is an 18th Century walled garden, accessed by either a beautiful stone bridge, or an Victorian iron suspension bridge attributed to Crawshaw Bailey!

Thomas Williams, Vicar of Llanspyddid, inherited the house in 1570 and his descendants (ten of whom were in Holy Orders) have lived here ever since.

We walk over fields, & on quiet lanes visiting a tiny church, then we head gradually up to a small moorland to get the views across to the Beacons. After our packed lunch viewpoint, we head down hill again back to the start to be guided around the garden & the house by it's current owners. At this time of year there should be a fantastic display of bearded irises which are part of the National Collection to enjoy, as well as many other examples of flora. At the end there will be cake & a hot drink to enjoy after a day to remember!
