About the event

Come & be guided on the first section of a unique and special new Pilgrimage route which runs through the beautiful Golden Valley area of Herefordshire. This new pilgrims's path has so much history and natural beauty to discover, we will be spoilt as we wander together. ABBEYDORE DEANERY | GOLDEN VALLEY PILGRIM WAY

We are going to be breaking the route down into managable sections as day walks over the next 6 months giving people chance to experience the route without having to walk it all in one go!

Just like the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, this Golden Valley path has a beautiful 'credential' (passport), which can be purchased for £5 and can be stamped at various churches along the way giving you satisfaction, and a memory of your walk, (the ticket price for these walks will also incude a donation to the churches that we get the stamps at of £2 per church).

This first section starts at the stunning Hereford Catherdral with a tour, (included in the cost), then we head out along the river path into the countryside passing Belmont Abbey & then onto Eaton Bishop where we visit the ancient iron age hill fort on the river Wye, then the village's gem of a church, before walking through some green fields to Madley village, finishing by having a peek inside the impressively large church which pilgrims have been visiting for 1,500 years!

The walk will be led by 'setting our intention' at the start, and there may be sections of reflective quiet walking to contemplate and relax in our natural surroundings.

You are welcome to bring a walking staff as an indication of your pilgrim status, & you will recieve a scallop shell to attach to your ruck sack, also as a sign you are walking the pilgrim way.

We will meet in Madley village where we can park at the recreational park/tennis club & catch the bus into Hereford city to then start.
